"Look guys for the last time. Branch and I were at Metroflex when Ronnie hurt his lat and it was not a nerve. It was 5 weeks out and he was doing rows. Big deal. Name a single bodybuilder that has not torn something or hurt something. That did not change whether or not he was going to win the Olympia. Ronnie has been traininig balls to the wall for many years, and he is no spring chicken anymore. Its a miracle that his body has held up so well, but training like that combined with age will get you eventually. Maybe he should have taken the year off - hindsight is always 20/20 but putting myself in his shoes I would have still done it.
I strongly believe that what got everyone was the changing of pre judging to Friday night instead of Saturday morning. I was with Branch all day Friday and he had no way to stay off his feet or to rest so he held water and his body did not have time to rest or react the way it normally would have. That is why so many people were off. Jay however got to be at home, rest and take it easy in his home town so he came into pre judging looking great when everyone else had to be stuck in a damn hotel room somewhere.
Torn lat - no torn lat the issue is a mute point and irrelevant. I talked with Ronnie the other day and he said he is back, motivated and that he is going to go for the O again this year. I think its one of the best things that could happen to bodybuilding because it is going to stir up so much talk, and hype that we will draw in a bigger audience than ever before. I respect and like Ronnie and Jay very much - both are true champions so this year we will get to see them go at it again. Game on."
"It was weird bro. Barbell rows with only two plates on each side - basically a warm up set. He did a few reps and then set the bar down kinda hard and we heard him say "ut ooh" He was rotating his arm around a bit and moving it in different directions to stretch it and he quietly said "ouch" That was it. Nothing explosive nothing super hard or stressful. Just one of those cases where maybe the angle or length of stretch - whatever just got him. He messed around a bit and was very quiet and then just left. Brian Dobson and all of us talked about it and we commented how we hope he did not hurt himself, but turns out he got his lat a bit.
But you know bodybuilding is always working around your injuries, strains, aches and pains. You are pretty much always hurt one way or another. I just dont see why there has been such a controversy about his lat. Freeman has a torn pec. Dorian had a torn bicep. Art tore his quad. I mean everyone I know in the game has been hurt and some of them really bad and they keep going. That is what I admire. Ronnie no matter what just kept going and doing everything to the best of his ability. That 100% effort despite adversity is what motivates me."
