UFC and Strikeforce refuse to renew Fedors contract
It has been revealed on the Russian website lifesports.ru that Strikeforce (recently taken over by Zuffa) have refused to renew Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko’s contract.
The website reported that:
- Two consecutive losses have strongly influenced his price and demands.
- Negotiations have stalled and Fedor’s name will now only be used for promotional purposes of young and up-coming fighters and to increase the popularity of tournaments.
-There may be several contracts for individual battles, and eventually Fedor must agree to the conditions or just leave.
-Currently Fedor is still training and trying to recover from a difficult period, but even after the two losses hasn’t changed tactics nor coaching staff.
- After the premier of his film “The Last Emperor” in Moscow, Fedor went to Holland where he will spend some time training and recovering.
-Recall that recently the company’s owners bought the UFC title to Strikeforce, a company engaged in the organization of fighting without rules, and now both companies are closing their doors to Fedor.
The 34 year old fighter has suffered two losses recently causing many to think he should retire. This information may force Fedor to seriously consider doing so.
